ALEXANDER HELWIG WYANT (American, 1836-1892) “LANDSCAPE AND POOL”. Oil on canvas scene shows a pool of water surrounded by rocks with a tree along the water bank. A low valley is seen with light shining on valley floor with trees and shallow hillsides. A lightening sky is seen with gray puffy clouds. A wonderful use of light defining each item under a brightening sky. Housed in an oak leaf and acorn motif gesso decorated gilt replacement frame. PROVENANCE: Samuel T. Freeman & Co. Sale 1948.
