*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903. Cal. 30-06. SN 62966. Approx. 24” bbl. This is a very early knife/bayonet type 03 Springfield. Rifle is in very fine condition overall and retains all of its orig features with exception of being altered from rod bayonet. Bbl is dated “SA05” with no month date and stock has a script only cartouche with no date. There is also a 1/4” tall letter “V” directly in front of cartouche. CONDITION: Bolt has approx. 85% of finish with most wear being on body from cocking. Extractor is nitride/fire blue. Bands are in excellent condition with better than 95% of orig blue with a minimal of wear or scratches. Floorplate assembly shows better than 85% with just a couple of light scratches and some wear on bottom of floorplate & trigger guard itself. Stock is the straight, no bolt variety, as it should be with sharp finger grooves, a nice script cartouche & proof mark with a very minimum of light scratches & nicks that do not detract at all from this rifle. Upper hand guard is proper flat top with no sighting groove & no reinforcement clips. This rifle is one of the finest examples of a 1905 03 that this cataloguer has had the opportunity to handle and would be an asset to any advanced 03 collection. Unlike most cases there is no letter “A” on bbl, either top or bottom, from having been altered. 4-58241 BK10 (7,000-15,000)
