*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903. Cal. 30-03. SN 39365. This rifle is very rare indeed, retaining its orig 30-03 Cal. through the 1905 update. These are very unique rifles and extremely hard to come by, particularly in good condition. Rifle shows overall very good to fine and would make an excellent addition to any advanced 03 collection. Bbl measures 24-1/4” to the closed bolt and does not have any screw plugs from front band being moved to the rear when they would have shortened the bbl to convert to 06. Rifle has all the bells and whistles. CONDITION: Receiver and bbl assembly retain approx. 75-80% orig finish, though turning plum. Most wear is to the both front and rear sight bases. Bbl is dated “SA” over “05” and is in well-worn, but very acceptable condition. Bolt assembly retains about 65% of its blue with the primary wear being on the bolt body. Floorplate and trigger housing retain about 85% of the blue, turning plum with some pitting starting to develop in area of front mounting screw. Straight buttstock is in excellent condition, though showing no cartouche or proof mark and shows very little in the way of dings or mars with very sharp finger grooves. Flat top, upper hand guard, with no reinforcement clips, is in near mint condition with a total of 3 very small nicks in it, the largest of which measures approx. 1/8” x 1/8” and barely go through the finish. Buttplate retains approx. 50% orig finish, with some pitting throughout. Mechanics are excellent and proper early 03 sling/Krag style is in good condition, though dry. Bore is well-worn but is not dark. Edwards Collection 4-58512 BK62 (6,000-12,000)
