*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903. Cal. 30. SN 620XXX. This is an example of a cut-away or sectionalized rifle. I believe that it was done sometime probably during WWII, if not after. It was done very uniquely and all the cuts seem proper as from other examples that I have observed. Rifle is sectionalized in this manner: Receiver ring is sectionalized in 3 places: first one starting at the top rear of the receiver ring and running down about 2-1/2” to the left, 2nd one being through the word “Armory” and the final 3 numbers of the SN approx. 1-1/2”, and the 3rd one being down the right hand side approx. 2” and into the wood on the front receiver ring. Rear of receiver sectionalized above, below and directly in front of the magazine cutoff. Bolt is sectionalized at 12 O’clock, near the front of the firing pin, at 10 O’clock, to expose the rear of the firing pin and the firing pin spring, at 9 O’clock where the cocking piece screws into the bolt body on both the bolt body and the cocking piece. Wood and trigger housing are both sectionalized very well on both sides as well as the floor plate. There are 2 small sectionalized areas just above the trigger housing, below the stock bolt, to show operation of the trigger and trigger spring. Rear buttstock is sectionalized on left hand side to show oiler and butt trap spring. Bbl and rear sight sleeve are sectionalized on both sides of the sight as to show the inner bbl and the chamber. All in all, a very well done sectionalization. Rifle is in overall fair condition having been through at least one arsenal rebuild prior to sectionalizing. CONDITION: Receiver retains approx. 90% of a parkerized refinish. It is in good condition with no pits or corrosion present. Bbl, “9-09” dated, retains approx. 85% of its orig blue with a very well used bore, but should clean up to be pretty bright. Bands retain approx. 95% of a dull black parkerized type finish as does the trigger guard and floorplate assembly. Wood is in very good condition with the exception of one repaired gouge directly in front of the middle band opposite the band clip. It appears to have had a military fiber-glass type repair. Other than that stock is in excellent shape with the exception of finger grooves being well-rounded from extensive use. Upper hand guard is of the WWII variety and has numerous dents with no cracks throughout. There is no cartouche or proof mark present. Mechanically is fine, with the exception of being sectionalized. Rifle functions well. Edwards Collection 4-58515 BK61 (1,250-2,000)
