MARLIN BALLARD PACIFIC NO. 5 RIFLE. SN 31918. Cal. 38-55. 30″ oct bbl, gold-washed combination front sight, serrated side sporting rear with set screw & 3″ tang-mounted peep sight. Accompanied by full-length, brass-tipped wiping rod. Left side of receiver with the “Marlin Firearms Co. New Haven CT. U.S.A.” address & patent numbers. Equipped with dbl set triggers & small finger loop lever. Mounted with select straight grain walnut, uncheckerd, angled Schnable tip forearm, uncheckered straight grip & crescent butt. Inspection of gun reveals matching serial numbers on bottom of bbl, back of forend inside of butt plate & front of buttstock. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 90-95% blue, thinning in muzzle area, silvered at sharp edges, some spots of fine surface oxidation & toning with some brown. Receiver is a dark gray patina across bottom mixed with spotty silver patina on sides & across top. Stock is sound with typical nicks, dings & scratches, retaining most of an added coat of finish. Forend is sound with nicks & dings & a couple of minor gouges, hand-worn patina across bottom mixed with an added coat of finish. Mechanics are crisp, dark bore, strong rifling with moderate pitting. 4-35551 BDT287 (3,000-5,000)
