*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 3(?). This rifle appears to be a composite but still all in all is a reasonable example of a 1903 Springfield. Receiver is obviously, for whatever reason, something that left arsenal without a number on it. It is block lettering as opposed to script, so therefore I dispute the number “3”. Bbl is dated “SA11-10”. Stock is cartouched “1912”, about which I suspect because it is of the 2-bolt variety. Upper hand guard is of WWII vintage with the low hump. CONDITION: Receiver retains approx. 80% of finish with what appears to be some pipe wrench marks at wood line. Bore is poor but bbl has most of orig blue. Trigger guard assembly & middle band have 80-85% of orig blue and are in nice condition. Front band, although not abused, has turned plum. Buttplate is of the smooth variety with some rust. Buttstock is in reasonable condition though the finger grooves are rather well worn and cartouche has been either enhanced or changed. Other than that there is only one reasonably significant dent, just in front of top buttplate screw measuring 1-1/2” x 1/2”. Sights are orig to bbl. This is a decent rifle if you wish to have just an example of an 03 Springfield. 4-58240 BK12 (400-800)
