*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 ROD BAYONET RIFLE. Cal. Appears to be caliber 30-03. SN 58424. An assembled rod bayonet rifle with, what may be, an orig bbl bearing only marks “SA” and a flaming bomb without a date. Bayonet appears to be original. It has a correct upper handguard & stock with a replacement front band and bayonet locking block. Stock has a tiny “U” back of trigger guard. Front sight also appears to be a late creation. Middle band appears to be correct with a groove and tiny “U”. It has correct Krag style rear sight and the cutoff finished bright. It has a parkerized trigger guard & floorplate with a smooth trigger. Buttplate is smooth steel with trap. It has standard sling swivels with a very early 1905-type military sling. Bolt has a high polish blue finish on knob & handle and part of rear of body with a satin finish striker shroud & safety. CONDITION: Fine, as noted. Bbl retains a restored blue finish and receiver traces of restored blue finish with draw file marks & pitting. Stock has a hairline back of top tang; otherwise wood is sound and retains a fine hand rubbed, orig type finish. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bore. 4-59201 JR667 (5,000-10,000)
