EXTREMELY RARE & IMPORTANT COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY SHERIFF’S MODEL REVOLVER. Cal 44 WCF (44-40). SN 109127. Ultra rare real sheriff’s model with original 2-1/2″ bbl, original front sight, made without ejector rod housing. It has properly positioned two-line bbl address and three-line patent dates on the frame. It has one-piece, original factory walnut grips as indicated by numbers on the inside of the grips matching the frame serial numbers. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter fully identifying this revolver and indicating shipment on Feb. 2, 1886 to Henry Ellenger, address unavailable. As is well known, few of these revolvers were actually made and only a small percentage survive intact today. CONDITION: Fine. No original finish remains on the bbl, cylinder and grip frame, being a silver-gray patina, having been cleaned a long time ago. Frame retains traces of dark color in the most sheltered areas, otherwise is a light silver-gray patina with some light pitting on the recoil shields. Cylinder has several small dents and dings and light to moderate pitting. Handspring is weak and occasionally does not engage the hand, otherwise mechanics are fine. Grips show moderate to heavy wear with chipped toes and chips along the left edge with some mild battering on bottom and retain 75-80% old varnish. Strong bright bore with scattered pitting. 4-53188 JR1006 (30,000-45,000)
