RARE HAROLD HAERTEL BLUE BILL DRAKE DECOY. Harold Haertel was one of the 20th Century’s finest Illinois River decoy carvers. A delightful man with a precise attention to both sculptural form and painted technique. His decoys have for many years been highly prized amongst Illinois River collectors and have increased in price, particularly since his passing a few years ago. This decoy, set with glass eyes and carved cross wing tips is signed by Haertel on the bottom “Blue Bill made like those I made in the 20’s Harold Haertel 1990”. CONDITION: A couple of small scratches on the surface of the body, but otherwise very fine. 4-53624 (850-1,250)
