*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 “ROD-BAYONET”. Cal. 30-03. SN 20745. The ram rod bayonet 03 is considered the Holy Grail among 03 collectors. Unaltered examples with any condition at all are considered the most extremely rare 03 obtainable as most were modified to the 1905-1906 update. This rifle is the 2nd best that I’ve ever seen in my 40+ years of being around these types of rifles. CONDITION: Receiver retains 98%+ orig blue with just a couple of very minor rub marks. Bolt is near perfect with a polished body and slight fading to the blue on the knob from being actuated. Nitride blue extractor shows just a couple of very minor scratches toward the front from being actuated. Rear sight and sight base assembly show better than 95% of their orig finish with the most wear being on the top ramp from having the leaf adjusted. Middle band shows 99%+ blue and is perfect as one could hope to get. Front band also shows 99% of the orig blue. Bbl and front sight assembly shows better than 98% with just a couple of very light scratches that do not go all the way through the blue, from having a sight cover on it at time. Rod bayonet and assembly is flawless. Trigger guard and floorplate assembly show better than 99% with just a couple of very slight scuffs that do not penetrate through the blue. Rifle is equipped with a Rock Island Arsenal 1903 dated sling (of Krag style) that is as perfect as one could hope to get. Buttplate assembly shows better than 60% orig blue with some thinning and some turning to patina. Buttstock has approx. half a dozen very light nicks in it. Largest being underneath the sling and right at the rear swing swivel. Finger grooves are as sharp as the day they were made. Upper hand guard is near perfect with just a few slight scuff marks from being in a rack at some point. Bore and mechanics of this gun are perfect. “1904” dated cartouche is crisp as the day it was put in the stock. There is no circle “P”. This is undoubtedly one of the finest examples of a rod bayonet that anyone could hope to obtain. 4-58352 BK55 (30,000-40,000)
