*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1911 MILITARY SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. SN 106284. Standard 1911 from the 1914 contract. It has usual slide markings with large eagle on right side of slide and a flaming bomb where inspector initials are usually found, on left side of frame and again at left rear of slide. It has a WWII era High Standard bbl that has had skirt polished and artificially aged. Slide lock is a WWII era replacement as is the bbl bushing and other small parts. Grips are large diamond checkered walnut. Magazine is an early Colt 2-tone model with lanyard loop. This scarce pistol is one of a total of only about 31,000 ever built at Springfield in four separate contracts prior to the ending of WWI. These pistols saw service in both WWI & WWII as well as Korea and to some extent, also in Vietnam. Therefore, few are ever encountered with very much orig condition. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Slide retains 65-70% orig blue with some spots of flaking. Frame retains about 85% strong orig blue with good front & backstraps. Magazine shows moderate to heavy pitting on left side and retains about 60% orig blue. Grips show light to moderate wear with a chipped diamond or two. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-30299 JR82 (2,500-3,500)
