*RARE HALF NICKEL MARLIN MODEL 27 PUMP ACTION RIFLE. SN 2820. Cal. 32 WCF (32-20). Standard grade rifle with 24″ tapered oct bbl, dovetail front sight with broken ivory bead and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Top flat has standard markings forward of rear sight and caliber marking over chamber with “Special Smokeless Steel” with a diamond at each end on top left flat. It has 2/3 magazine. Mounted with very nicely figured uncheckered flame & shell grain American walnut with ribbed rnd forearm and straight stock with crescent steel buttplate. This rifle has the most unusual feature of bright nickel plating on receiver, buttplate, slide rod, knurled end of magazine tube and forearm screws. Hammer & trigger are also nickel plated. Very few of these rifles were ever plated in this manner. SN is on the left side of top tang under the wood, in the top tang channel of buttstock and inside buttplate. The Model 27 was introduced in 1909 and was shortly superceded by the Model 27S which had a special button added to right side of frame to allow the action to be opened without having to lower the hammer onto the firing pin, which was a dangerous situation at best. Given the short production life of this rifle it is understandable why they are so rare today. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching. Bbl & magazine tube retain 96-97% strong orig blue with a couple of minor scratches and faint sharp edge wear on bbl with thinning from the forearm on the rear exposed portion of the magazine tube. Receiver and all other nickeled items retain most of their bright orig factory nickel with some fine crazing of the surface on both sides & top of receiver. Buttplate is flaked with fine pin prick pimpling. Butt stock has a bruise by the toe with surface nicks & scratches, overall the wood being sound and retains about 85% orig varnish on butt stock and 97-98% on forearm. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-40445 JR290 (2,000-3,000)
