GEORGE COLE (BRITISH, 1810 – 1883) THE CHANCE MEETING. Oil on canvas landscape shows a man on a brown horse stopping to converse with a woman who is seated on log with walking stick. The dirt path leads to a fancy cottage overlooking expansive fields and forest under blue and white cloud sky. The foreground has a small pond. Signed lower left, “GEORGE COLE, 1879”.
