*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1898 KRAG CARBINE. Cal. 30. SN 138879. This is a nice, pleasing example of an 1898 Krag Carbine with the exception of having a rear rifle sight. The mechanics are excellent and the gun is very pleasing to look at. CONDITION: Receiver and sideplate assembly still retain their mottled finish although the receiver is beginning to plum. Loading gate retains approx. 75-80% of the blue and is in good condition. Bbl assembly retains approx. 80-85% of its orig finish with some minor dings, but is turning plum where it is not covered by the wood as is the correct front carbine sight. Bbl band is in excellent condition retaining 90%+ of its orig blue with just the slightest area of small pitting approx. 1/2” above the spring catch. Rear sight is not the correct Carbine sight as it has an 1800-yd graduation and no letter ”C” on it. Trigger guard retains about 70% orig blue coverage with a couple of small nicks in it. Buttplate retains about 50% orig finish, turning to plum. Buttstock is in very good shape with numerous light scuffs to it, and a slight crack between the sideplate and the saddle bar, but has a fairly readable “1898” cartouche and circle “P”. Upper hand guard is in good condition with a couple small nicks and what appears to be repaired crack that extends from the rivet on the right hand side to the receiver ring. This is very common for these hand guards. Mechanics are excellent and bore is well-used with barely discernable rifling, but not pitted. Edwards Collection 4-58504 BK45 (1,000-1,500)
