OUTSTANDING REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK LIGHT BABY CARBINE. SN NSN. Cal. 44-40. 20″ rnd bbl, square base front sight with 2-leaf flip-up rear, standard receiver with ring bar & saddle ring on left side. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, with carbine style butt plate. There is a number “1” stamped on tang of butt plate as well as in the curve. As taken from Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms…and Their Values, only a few thousand of these Light Baby Carbines were produced between 1885-1910. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Gun is probably test-fired only. Metal surfaces retain nearly all of their orig nickel, with some fine pinpoint-size bubbling on receiver, a few nicks & scratches and some minor flakes. Face of breechblock has most of its nickel, flaked only where it touches top of bbl. Nickel has flaked from nose of hammer. Stock is sound with a few nicks & dings and 5 shallow depression dents on left side, retaining most of its orig oiled finish. Forend is sound with some minor nicks & dings & retains most of its oiled finish. Mechanics are crisp with a bright shiny bore. 4-35412 BDT270 (2,500-3,500)
