FINE REMINGTON-HEPBURN NO. 3 SPORTING & TARGET RIFLE. SN 3944. Cal. 45-70. Beautiful Hepburn with 30″ medium weight oct bbl, globe front sight with a slot blank in rear seat and an Axtell vernier tang sight with 4″ staff. Mounted with straight grain American walnut with uncheckered black insert Schnabel tip forearm & checkered pistol grip stock with rnd knob wrist & a smooth Remington semi-crescent steel buttplate. There is an empty silver oval initial plate at the toe. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Estate Collection. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains about 95-97% strong orig factory blue with faint sharp edge wear and some light wear from an orig rear sight. Receiver, trigger guard & opening lever retain virtually all of their orig case colors, brilliant on sides of receiver, lightly faded over top & top tang, strong & bright on lever, moderately faded on bottom & trigger bow, very faded on bottom tang. Buttplate retains about all of its faded orig case colors. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches with a series of small bruises on bottom of forearm & retains most of its orig factory varnish.
