*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1895 KRAG CARBINE. Cal. 30. SN 27833. This appears to be a nice orig example of a ’95 Krag Carbine that is in pretty good shape considering that they did most of the work up to and including the Rough Riders. This particular example has a fair amount of condition as well as a very legible “1896” cartouche and proof mark. CONDITION: Receiver retains 85% of the orig mottled blue with the sideplate retaining approx. 65%. Magazine cover retains approx. 90% of its finish and bolt is polished beginning to patina with the blue on the extractor beginning to fade. Bbl retains approx. 80% of the orig blue. Well-worn bore still exhibits some brightness to it. Bbl band and rear sight base retain approx. 15-20% blue which is patinated while the rear sight carbon leaf retains some 80%. Front & rear sights are both the correct Carbine sights. Front sight retains about 50% of the orig blue. Buttstock, though seeing a fair amount of use, is in good condition with a very legible cartouche and a nice fit to the saddle bar. Trigger guard assembly is faded to a grayish-brown patina. Buttplate retains approx. 50% of a fading blue. Upper hand guard is in fair condition with one approx. 1” x 1” dent directly behind the rivet and a repaired crack that runs from the rear sight to the receiver ring. Mechanics are excellent. This is one of the better surviving examples of a ’95 Krag Carbine that I’ve had the opportunity to inspect. Edwards Collection 4-58501 BK47 (1,200-2,000)
