*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1898 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30. SN 178227. This “1899” dated Krag Rifle is well-used, but still fairly pleasing to look at. It would be a nice example for a beginning collector, or a collector on a budget that cannot afford mint piece, but still retains all the nice features of an orig ’98 Krag. CONDITION: Receiver retains approx. 40% mottling case colors with the sideplate appearing to have been replaced and retaining approx. 70%. Sideplate screw is a modern replacement. Magazine cover retains about 60% orig colors, beginning to silver at the top. Bolt is still in nice polished condition with what appears to be a light coat of grease and approx. 90% still on the extractor. Bbl has approx. 10-15% faded blue above the wood line with the smallest bit of pin prick pitting scattered. Front bbl band assembly retains about 70% fading colors with some light rush present. Middle band retains very little blue, but has no rust or corrosion on it. Trigger guard assembly retains approx. 90% of the blue with some very light scattered rust just starting. Buttplate is better than most and retains approx. 85% vivid blue with 1” x 1” flake at the top, near the toe and several very minor scuffs along the way. Rear sight assembly is a mod. “1898” and has about 30% of the blue remaining and is unmolested. Buttstock is in good condition with fairly sharp finger grooves, but numerous chips and dents primarily forward of the magazine assembly, getting heavier as they reach the front band. Upper hand guard is in very good condition with just a few small bruises and no cracks. Mechanics are outstanding. Bore shows heavy use with corrosion throughout. May clean up some.
