*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1896 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30. SN 66498. This is a nice example of an early mod. ’96 Krag with a cartouche of “1897”. It is in overall very good condition with a nice bright bore and a wonderfully smooth action. CONDITION: Receiver retains approx. 30% of the mottled blue finish more prominent toward the front hand guard assembly with the balance fading to patina. Sideplate assembly retains approx. 10-15% of the finish and is also fading to patina. Magazine assembly retains approx. 50% of the finish with the balance fading to patina. Bbl retains better than 90% of its orig blue and is in very good condition with no fading or rust present and is complimented by a muzzle cap/sight cover. Front bbl band retains approx. 85% of the nice blue as does the middle band. Buttstock is in very good condition with a very minimum of dings in it, predominantly around the finger grooves and top of wrist. Trigger guard assembly retains 50% of its blue. Cartouche is very present and very legible as is the “P” inspection proof. Upper hand guard is in excellent shape, as well has no cracks, and no dings in it. ’96 rear sight is in very good condition retaining approx 85% of its orig finish. Buttplate retains approx. 40% of its finish with cleaning rod and oiler in the butt. Mechanically it is excellent. Edwards Collection 4-58500 BK48 (1,100-1,600)
