*UNUSUAL ALTERATION OF A KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 22. NSN. It appears that someone, possibly an arsenal, has altered a Krag receiver & stock by inserting a Remington 22 receiver into Krag receiver with its entire bbl and magazine tube. Both sideplate & cartridge box have been removed & replaced with flat steel plates. The right rear of 22 receiver has a homemade thumb safety. It has a 23” rnd bbl with military style sleeve front sight, two bands with stacking swivel & sling swivels and a Krag upper handguard with a filled sight cutout. It has Krag trigger guard & smooth buttplate with trap and an 1896 cartouche. Bottom of forestock, between two upper bands, has an oval cutout for loading magazine. Left side of receiver is mounted with a solid base containing a Weaver Model 329 3/4” tube scope. Altogether a most unusual piece, possibly built by military as a sub-caliber practice rifle or simply the creation of some ingenious gunsmith. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains about 75% flaked blue & receiver 50-60% old refinish. Stock has a crack on left side in front of the sideplate cutout, otherwise wood is sound with normal handling & use marks and an unusual groove on left side of forearm. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore, good optics. 4-59131 JR668 (3,000-5,000)
