VERY RARE REMINGTON HEPBURN EXTRA HEAVY OFF-HAND RIFLE. SN 7868. Cal. 38-55. 32″ extra heavy oct bbl, measuring 1.380″ at muzzle; globe front sight, no rear seat, tang-mounted 3″ Vernier peep sight. Top of bbl marked “REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION. N.Y.” The falling block receiver is equipped with dbl set triggers. Mounted with dark “streaky” walnut, full multi-point checkered forend with nickel Schnable forend tip, multi-point checkered rnd knob pistol grip, left side cheekpiece & nickel Swiss butt plate. Inspection of gun reveals matching SN on bbl & inside of butt plate. Gun weighs 18 lbs. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 50-60% orig thinning blue, mixed with brown patina & silvered at sharp edges. Receiver retains 50-60% orig case colors mixed with silver hardening & brown patina. Trigger bow & grip area have turned a brown patina. Stock is sound with good checkering, only a few points that are flat; nicks & dings with scratch marks in flute of comb from Vernier tang sight, nicks along edges of cheekpiece & retains a dark oil finish. Butt plate retains 90% nickel, flaked or worn on prongs. Forend is sound with a couple depression dents, a few minor scratches, good checkering & retains a dark oil finish.
