*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1892 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30. SN 8545. This is a good example of a ’92 Krag Rifle although it has had some minor updates. Would be a good candidate for someone who had access to a couple of small parts. CONDITION: As in virtually all ’92 Krags, this one has seen its share of service. Receiver shows approx. 10% of the case hardening with the balance turning to patina. Left sideplate is a later replacement and shows approx. 90% of the color. Magazine cover appears to be orig to the gun and shows approx. 70% finish with some very minor, very fine pitting in the blue. Bolt assembly shows orig and in good condition and extractor showing approx. 40% of the fire blue. Safety appears to be correct for this gun. Flat muzzle bbl shows approx. 65-70% finish with some very small spots of minor pitting in the exposed areas. Cleaning rod is a modern replacement. Type 2 front bbl band is also a replacement. I believe it to be a ’96, as it does not have the ramrod guide. Front bbl band shows 80% orig finish. Middle band shows approx. 40% orig finish, balance turning to plum. Rifle is equipped with an orig Krag sling that has been repaired and is very delicate. Trigger guard shows just patina with very little existence of orig finish. Buttstock is in good condition with numerous dents and dings from front to rear, but a very good “1894” cartouche and circle “P”. Upper hand guard assembly is in very good shape with just the smallest of dings throughout and no visible cracks. Orig ’92 Krag rear sight is in very good condition, showing better than 85% of the orig bright blue. No trap buttplate shows better than 50% of the orig bright blue finish. Mechanics are fine, and bore is dark with fairly strong rifling. All in all, this is a very good example of an extremely hard to get Krag and would be difficult to upgrade.
