RARE MARLIN MODEL 1894 INSCRIBED DELUXE EASTERN CARBINE. SN 128420. Cal. 38-40, 20″ rnd bbl, full mag, Lyman ivory bead front sight, usual carbine ladder rear sight. Top of bbl is marked “MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D OCT. 11. 1887. APRIL 2. 1889. AUG. 1. 1893.” Adjacent bbl “38-40”. Standard receiver with top flat marked “MARLIN SAFETY”. Tang mounted peep sight and left side inscribed “MABEL C. BERNARD”. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, B-style checkered pistol grip, steel carbine buttplate, B-style checkered forend with single band. Inspection of inside tangs reveals matching “128420” on left side of top tang and top tang channel can be read “1284”. Underside of buttplate also finds matching “128420” number. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection CONDITION: Fine. Bbl and mag tube retain 50-60% orig blue with clean spots on bbl blending with silver and brown patina, normal minor nicks & scratches and some faint thinning at muzzle and chamber areas. Receiver retains 75% orig blue, thinning and silvering on bottom and front edges, showing bright on sharp edges with balance blending with brown patina. Hammer shows fading orig case colors and lever has turned a silver hardening blending with brown patina. Stock is sound with slightly worn checkering, moderate nicks, dings & scratches and retains orig high-gloss finish. Forend is sound with slightly worn checkering and a few flattened points, minor nicks & dings and small chip at rear right side and retains a hand-worn patina blending with orig high-gloss finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright bore with a few shallow scattered pits. 4-40385 BDT220 (3,000-5,000)
