*SPECIAL ORDER MARLIN MODEL 1894 WITH 28 INCH BARREL. SN 214866. Cal. 38-40, 28″ rnd bbl, full magazine, German silver rocky mountain front sight, V-notch sporting rear with set screw. Top of bbl marked “MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO., NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D OCT. 11. 1887. APRIL 2. 1889. AUG. 1. 1893”. Adjacent receiver “38-W.” Standard receiver with top marked “MARLIN SAFETY” and top tang “MODEL / 1894”. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent steel buttplate, standard forend with nose cap. Inspection of inside tangs reveals matching “214866” number on left side of top tang as well as inside top tang channel of stock. Accompanying gun is a Marlin Firearms Company letter identifying as 38-40 with 28″ rnd bbl, shipped 1901 with no other information and signed “William S. Brophy”. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection CONDITION: Fine+. Bbl and mag tube retain 90-95% orig blue with top of bbl having minor gun case rash of fine surface oxidation with a cleaned area over top of chamber. Receiver retains 97-98% bright orig case colors starting to show bright on sharp edges and faint area of surface oxidation in lacquer on left side. Hammer and lever show nearly all of their orig case colors with loop of lever blending with silver patina. Stock is sound with a few minor nicks & bruises and retains orig finish that has been waxed. Buttplate shows dulling orig case colors. Forearm is sound with some minor nicks & dents and retains orig finish that has been waxed. Nose cap retains most of its orig blue. Mechanics are crisp with a nice shiny bore, as gun has seen little use. 4-40372 BDT201 (4,000-6,000)
