REMINGTON/SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1871 ARMY RIFLE WITH BAYONET. NSN. Cal. 50/70. 36” rnd bbl. Marked with eagle over “U.S / SPRINGFIELD / 1872” on right side of receiver, “MODEL 1871.” on left with two-line patent information on upper tang and “ESA” cartouche on left side of stock. The 18” socket bayonet is marked “US” at the base. It has metal scabbard but no frog. 10,000 of these were made using Remington actions with all other parts being made at Springfield. CONDITION: Gray patina overall with scattered light pitting. Stock is fine with minor handling marks. Mechanically crisp. Bore is poor. Bayonet is fine.
