VERY RARE HAWAII NATIONAL GUARD REMINGTON LEE BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN 53577. This rare rifle, model of 1882 or 1885, is one of only a few purchased for the Hawaii National Guard, some of which are on display at the Iolani Palace. This particular rifle reportedly belonged to the Sargent of the Guards and was formerly in the Robinson Family Collection. It is in standard military issue configuration with 32-1/2” rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with military ski jump ladder rear sight. It has full length walnut stock with two bands, having a stacking & sling swivel on upper band and a sling swivel at front of triggerguard. Left side of buttstock is hand stamped “NGH” and right side has a small copper oval screwed to stock and stamped “00”. Magazine is missing. There is a social security number scratched in top of wrist. Running a rod down bore dislodged a piece of very brittle dark brown paper that this cataloguer was unable to open for examination for fear of destroying it. CONDITION: Fair. No orig finish remains with all of metal having a moderate layer of pitting, indicative of long exposure to salt air. Wood is sound with a dull hand worn finish. Mechanics are a little stiff but fine, bore is very dark & pitted. 4-30236 JR63 (2,500-5,000)
