*SIGNIFICANT FIRST-SHIPPED BROWNING 20 GAUGE SUPERPOSED SHOTGUN. SN 242. Cal. 20 ga. 28″ bbls with matted, vent rib with sgl silver sighting bead, 2-3/4″ chambers, choked FULL / FULL with blue sgl selective trigger & ejectors. Chamber area of top bbl on left side marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY – ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI / SPECIAL STEEL – 20 GA – SHELLS 2-3/4” and right side is “VAL. A. BROWNING PATENTS NO. 2203.378-2233.86 / MADE IN BELGIUM”. Receiver is engraved with minimal scroll border & oval of foliate scroll in center of each side with circle “R” / “BROWNING” and bust of John Browning on bottom. Mounted with select straight grain walnut, checkered rounded pistol grip with long tang & “BROWNING SUPERPOSED” horn butt plate. Checkered field style forend. Bore diameter: top -.610, bottom -.610. Bore restrictions: top -.030, bottom -.029. Wall thickness: top -.041, bottom -.043. Drop at heel: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. 10 oz. LOP 14-1/8″. Accompanied by Browning Firearms letter identifying gun as standard superpose 20 ga. with 28″ bbls choked FULL / FULL, vented rib, field stock; the 1st 20 ga. superpose assembled & shipped to Browning in St. Louis; gun was completed May 1, 1949, & shipped May 12, 1949; sold June 16, 1949, on invoice no. P6404, to Mr. M. A. Browning, Ogden, Utah. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 95% orig blue with a few minor scratches on bottom bbl & some sharp edge wear to rib. Receiver has 95-98% orig blue with just some slight edge wear & a little thinning across bottom. Stock is solid & is numbered to the gun under trigger guard. Finish believed to be factory but of a later time period, early 1960’s or so, because it’s a hard shiny finish with crazing & has just a couple of minor nicks & scrapes. Forend is sound with typical light handling marks & believed to be orig, as it has a soft satin look. Mechanics are good with strong ejectors & shiny bores. 4-35571 BDT95 (4,500-7,500)
