WINCHESTER COMMERCIAL MILITARY LEE NAVY STRAIGHT-PULL BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 236 Lee Navy. SN 11525. Scarce version of the military rifle, only about 3,300 made in period 1895-1902. Exactly like the military rifle with 28” tapered rnd bbl, square base front sight with two bbl bands, the front of which has bayonet lug & stacking swivel. Middle band has sling swivel with corresponding base on buttstock. Mounted in a full length, 1-pc, nicely grained, American walnut stock with handguard & 2,000 yard military ladder rear sight. Receiver ring has the “WP” Winchester proof and is without inspector initials & anchor. Accompanied by a Remington Arms bayonet marked on left side with 8-1/4” spearpoint blade and brown leather scabbard with blued steel throat & tip. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Near new, retains about 96-97% strong orig blue on bbl and about the same on receiver & magazine box. Wood is sound with light handling & storage marks and retains most of its orig factory oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright bore, dark in the grooves, may clean better. Bayonet is fine with bright polished blade over light, fine pitting. Handle shows light to moderate wear, scabbard is as new. 4-30294 JR57 (3,000-4,000)
