ANDREW W. MELROSE (American, 1836-1901) THE OVERLOOK. Outstanding oil on wood panel scene shows two women seated on a grass and rock overlook with an expansive panoramic view of a large city on each side of a waterway with boats. The near shoreline has twin buildings with domes and multi-story attached buildings. The far bank has a large dome building, all under a colorful blue and colored cloud sky. The foreground has a woman with child and man with cane on a rocky path. Initialed lower left. Housed in a modern gilt antique style frame. SIZE: 8-1/2″ x 10-3/4″. CONDITION: Very good with inpainting. 9-99992 (5,000-7,000)
