EXCEPTIONALLY RARE MODEL 1900 AMERICAN EAGLE TEST LUGER. Cal. 30 Luger. SN 6881. Usual configuration with 4-3/4″ tapered bbl, Sheard style front sight, full checkered walnut grips and an unnumbered stainless wood-base magazine. It has a spread-winged American eagle over the chamber, no proof marks and no DWM flaming bomb proof in the well. It has the last two digits of the serial number, “81”, on the right end of the lock bolt, as is proper for Test Eagle Lugers and it is not marked “GERMANY”. Accompanied by the original page “Dealer’s Record of Sale of Revolver or Pistol” / “STATE OF CALIFORNIA”, Series No. 1917, Sheet B No. 33072 Which identifies this pistol as having been sold to John L. Balestra of Sonora by F.F. Ball, also of Sonora. It identifies Mr. Balestra as White, 5′ 9-1/2″ tall, blue eyes and brown hair, and whose occupation was a druggist. Also accompanied by a copy of 1900 Luger / U.S. TEST TRIALS, revised edition, by Michael Reese II. Listed on page 70 is all the known Test Lugers as of that printing, which appears to be 1971. Several of these items are either check marked or the owner’s name is underlined. There is a notation at the top of the page which states “Ser #6881 / Cal 30 – 7.65 mm / Bought 4-29-30 / 32 Rounds Fired”. There is another notation further down the page, near where this serial number should be listed, which states “6881 Ostroski”. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine. All matching including the grips. Firing pin and magazine are unnumbered. Retains 96-98% strong, bright original blue overall with only slight muzzle edge wear, a tiny amount of sharp edge wear, some very minor scratches on the front grip strap and minor high point wear on the side plate. Overall retains virtually all of its original straw colors, slightly thinned on the safety and trigger. Mechanics are crisp, the grips are fine with one or two very minor bruises and light diamond point wear. Magazine is fine with bright body and cracked wooden base.
