ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE. Cal 44-40. SN 167088. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4” oct bbl, button magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with trap. The bbl has a replacement Sheard front sight and replacement semi buckhorn rear sight. The receiver, sideplates, forend cap, chamber and muzzle areas of the bbl, and buttplate tang are after-market engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background. The left sideplate has a running deer and the right sideplate a dogs head that resembles the Nimschke dogs head. CONDITION: Bbl retains a gray brown artificially aged patina and the receiver a dark brown patina. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Worn dark bore with a ring about midpoint. 4-50547 JR170 (750-1,250)
