*SCARCE MARLIN MODEL 94 SHORT RIFLE. SN 22. Cal. 44-40, 20″ rnd bbl, full magazine, dovetail fine bead front sight, V-notch sporting rear. Bbl is marked “MARLIN FIREARMS CO, NEW-HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D OCT. 11. 1887. APRIL 2. 1889. AUG. 1. 1893.” Adjacent receiver “44-40”. Standard receiver with top tang marked “MARLIN / MODEL 94”, lower tang is stamped with serial number rather than in usual front location. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, curved steel buttplate, standard forend with nose cap. Inspection of inside tangs reveals matching “22” on left side of top tang and top tang channel of stock. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection CONDITION: Fine+. Bbl and mag tube retain 95-98% orig blue with faint muzzle wear, an area just behind front sight that has rubbed and blending with silver patina, normal minor nicks & scratches. Receiver retains 90-95% orig case colors, thinning across bottom and blending with gray patina and a few normal minor nicks & scratches. Hammer shows orig blue lightly silvering on right side. Lever shows fading orig colors blending with gray patina. Stock is sound with some normal nicks & dings and retains orig varnish that has been lightly cleaned. Buttplate shows strong orig blue with silver patina at heel and toe. Forend is sound with typical nicks & dings with narrow sliver missing from forward right side and retains orig varnish blending with hand-worn patina. Nose cap shows strong orig blue.
