EXTREMELY RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1886 EXPERIMENTAL CARBINE. Cal. 45/70. SN 340859. 24” rnd bbl. Only 1,000 of these were made. Note the single bbl band toward the front of the stock, which is longer than normal. Front sling swivel is curved to wrap around stock when carbine is in boot attached to saddle. Rear sight is marked “XC”. “SWP” cartouche is dated 1886. CONDITION: Very good. Gray/brown patina overall with spots of surface rust and scattered light pitting. Traces of blue in protected places. Stock has numerous dents and dings but is still solid. Rack number “3” is on brass plate nailed to bottom of stock at butt. Mechanically fine. Bore is bright, but lightly pitted.
