VERY RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 RAMROD BAYONET RIFLE. Cal. 45/70. SN 341254. 32-5/8” rnd bbl. Standard Springfield markings on lockplate and breechblock. “SWP” cartouche dated 1886. Two-hole compartment under trapdoor in butt contains only a Model 1879 takedown tool. Headless shell extractor is missing. Globe attachment covering front sight. Ramrod bayonet has sloping catch notches with no overlap on swiveling catch. Only 1,000 of these were made. Buffington rear sight has “R” marking at top. CONDITION: Blue/brown patina overall with scattered light pitting. Stock has normal handling marks. Left ear of receiver has been broken off and repaired. Bore is bright, but lightly pitted. Replacement breechblock does not quite fit, but can be made to work. Edwards Collection 4-58490 FS150 (2,000-3,000)
