WOODCOCK PERCUSSION FOWLING PIECE. NSN. 8 ga. 54” part oct bbl. Marked “WOODCOCK” in a wave form on the lockplate with Birmingham proof marks on the left quarter-flat of the bbl. The percussion hammer is fitted with a safety dog at the rear. These percussion market hunters’ guns are very rare as large cartridge guns were available by the time this one was made. The wrist is checkered. The bbl is attached to the stock with two wedges. The ramrod has a brass tip and a screw tail. CONDITION: Brown patina overall with light pitting, tending towards heavy at the breech. Wood has minor chips, dents and scratches and a repaired crack at the rear lockplate screw. 4-59442 FS605 (750-1,500)
