*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1884 TRAP DOOR. Cal. 45-70. SN 461952. This is an excellent example of an 84-89 trap door rifle. It shows lots and lots of condition, in and out, and is 100% orig up to and including the trowel bayonet. CONDITION: Receiver and bbl show 98%+ orig finish, but are heavily coated in a dried grease. Rear sight is a Buffington, and is in brand new condition, but also heavily coated with grease. Mod. 84 breech block shows nearly all of its orig vivid case colors, but once again this is entirely coated in heavy grease. Sideplate shows 98% of its orig finish, but is coated also. The trigger guard assembly shows 98%+ orig blue and has had most of dried grease cleaned off of it to exhibit its condition. Bands and cleaning rod exhibit new. Buttplate shows 90% orig finish with the only wear being on the 2 protruding edges. Trowel bayonet shows 80% of the orig blue on the handle assembly with some rust present, predominantly toward the rear. Polished area of the trowel bayonet exhibits some light and scattered pitting around the edges, but is overall fine. Buttstock shows near excellent with a very prominent “SWP 1889” cartouche and script circle “P” inspector mark is very prominent. There is however some scattered bruising primarily on the left side of the buttstock that is noticeable, but doesn’t stand out. No scabbard or wood plug is present for the bayonet. 4-58737 BK73 (1,750-2,500)
