SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 97337. Standard grade rifle with 24” scarce heavier than standard rnd bbl, full magazine, with uncheckered wood, straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. The bbl has half nickel front sight with early short semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle and indicating shipment on 8/19/1882 to order #34617. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl & magazine tube retain about 90% dull original blue with freckles of light patina and a spot or two of rust. Forend cap retains about 90% bright original blue and the receiver about 90% bright original blue with flaked areas and cleaned light surface rust. Lever retains about 25% case colors and the hammer about 60%. Wood is sound with a fine hand rubbed patina and a black chemical streak down the bottom and extending around the side. 4-51487 JR838 (3,850-4,250)
