EXCEPTIONALLY RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED TAKEDOWN SPECIAL ORDER MARLIN MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 128458. Cal. 38 WCF (38-40). Fantastic little rifle with 24″ oct to rnd bbl, Marbles duplex front sight, a replacement Marbles folding leaf rear sight and a rare Marbles automatic flexible tang sight. It has half magazine with standard markings above the rear sight and caliber marking over the chamber area and a flush cam lever. Mounted with extremely beautiful, burl, American walnut with extremely fine, about 26-28 lines per inch, “B” style checkered forearm and serpentine grip stock that has Ballard monogram hard rubber buttplate. Receiver is engraved in No. 3 style by Conrad Ulrich with the large oval vignette of a bull & cow elk in a meadow scene on left side surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background and wavelet & heart shaped borders. Right side is engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with matching borders and about 50% coverage foliate arabesque patterns on side of bolt. Top of receiver & receiver ring are engraved in light arabesque patterns with a chip & dot border around hammer slot. Bottom of receiver is engraved with a foliate fan pattern around screw hole and an accompanying foliate arabesque pattern. Sides of takedown ring & forend cap are lightly engraved with light arabesque patterns over the chamber area of exposed bbl flats and one of the most exceptional features of the entire rifle are the gold plated screws. Accompanied by a Marlin factory letter over the signature of William S. Brophy detailing the above information plus that it was shipped in 1896. SN is on bottom of receiver, left side of top tang under the wood and in the top tang channel of the buttstock. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, all matching. Bbl retains 97-98% strong orig factory blue with only faint sharp edge wear and wear from a previously installed longer rear sight. Takedown ring & forend cap retain most of their orig factory blue. Receiver retains 95-96% strong orig factory blue with light edge wear and a couple of minor scratches on left side in the background of the vignette. Lever retains strong bright colors, brilliant in sheltered areas, faded on outer edges. Hammer also retains strong bright colors, lighter on left side. The extra select wood is sound with a few scattered light nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig factory piano varnish finish. Screws retain most of their light gold wash.
