*RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED TAKEDOWN MARLIN MODEL 94 LEVER ACTION SHORT RIFLE. SN 419087. Cal. 25-20. Wonderful little rifle with 20″ light weight oct to rnd bbl, half magazine, Marbles No. 2 ivory bead front sight, slot blank in rear seat and Marbles locking tang sight. Mounted with beautiful center crotch flame grain American walnut with “B” style checkering on forearm and serpentine grip butt stock that has Marlin hard rubber buttplate. Receiver is beautifully engraved in No. 3 style by Conrad Ulrich with the oval vignette of a standing bull & cow elk in a mountain scene on the left side surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns with wavelet borders over top & bottom edges and heart shaped borders at front & rear edges. Right side has nearly full coverage intertwined foliate arabesque patterns with punch dot background and similar borders to the left side with a dbl chip border over the loading gate. Bottom of receiver is engraved in light arabesque patterns with a shell pattern around the screw hole. The takedown ring & forend cap are engraved to match and the chamber area of the bbl, on all exposed flats is engraved in light arabesque patterns. This little rifle has an additional very unusual feature that was probably gunsmith added during the period of use, which is a takedown locking system milled into the lower left rear edge of the forearm. It has a U-shaped steel housing containing a sliding about 1/8″ rod that, when extended, passes through the locking arm and into a hole in the face of the receiver. Accompanied by a Doug Turnbull Restorations invoice which shows a complete restoration to all metal parts along with recutting the engraving and bbl lettering. SN is on left side of top tang under the wood and inside the top tang channel of the butt stock. This is a wonderful & rare little rifle and it is understandable why Mr. Rohal would have gone to the trouble & expense to have it restored. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching. Metal retains all of the wonderful Turnbull restored finish with strong dark blue and brilliant case colors. Wood is sound with a few scattered handling & use marks with checkering showing moderate wear and overall retains most of its orig varnish which is lightly hand worn. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-40383 JR295 (5,000-8,000)
