EARLY SPRINGFIELD TRAPDOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45/70. SN 6190. 32-5/8” rnd bbl. Standard early markings on breechblock “MODEL / 1873 / eagle head over crossed arrows / US”. Lock has large eagle followed by “US / SPRINGFIELD / 1873”. “ESA” cartouche on left side of stock is faint but visible. This has the long wrist stock and stepped rear sight. All other features are standard. CONDITION: Strong traces of blue on lockplate and hammer, otherwise gray/brown patina on metal. Stock shows small repairs at rear lockplate screw, chips at the butt, and has been refinished overall. Mechanically fine. Bore is good. Edwards Collection 4-58467 FS114 (1,000-2,000)
