CORRECTION: The correct nomenclature for this extremely rare engraving pattern is #5-3 rather than #3/5 as stated in the catalog description. *WONDERFUL & UNUSUAL #3/5 DELUXE ENGRAVED MARLIN MODEL 20 PUMP ACTION RIFLE. SN 4252. Cal. 22. Special little rifle with 23″ tapered oct bbl, front sight with broken ivory bead and Model 20 rear sight. Mounted with very highly figured flame & shell grain American walnut with checkered rnd forearm and straight stock with semi-crescent buttplate. Receiver is specially engraved by Conrad Ulrich with very large oval vignette on left side of a standing bull moose feeding on leaves and a cow moose reclining in the background, all set in a forest scene. Right side has a smaller oval vignette of a running whitetail buck in a forest scene. Both sides of receiver have full coverage oak leaf & acorn pattern engraving with matching engraving on the takedown knob, side of the bolt and receiver ring. Receiver ring also has an engraved shell pattern at front edge. Floorplate of the receiver is engraved with foliate arabesque patterns and tapering snake patterns on bottom edges. Top edges of receiver have fine snake patterns. Chamber area of the bbl is engraved on all exposed flats in elliptical shapes with arabesque patterns to their front. Buttplate is engraved with a plain line border and foliate arabesque patterns that have a diamond checkered center. Accompanied by an invoice from Doug Turnbull Restorations dated Dec. 27, 2006 which is for engraving the bolt in oak leaf patterns, bluing & aging only the bolt. It also appears that the buttplate & buttplate screws are refinished. SN is found on left side of top tang under the wood, in top tang channel of buttstock and inside buttplate. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very good to fine, all matching. Bbl retains 75-80% thinning orig blue turning slightly plum with scattered spots of rust. Magazine tube is a thin blue/brown patina. Receiver retains about 85% orig blue with the bolt engraving & blue matching nearly perfectly. Wood is sound with light handling & use marks and retains most of a very old professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, worn dark bore. 4-40447 JR288 (3,000-5,000)
