SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1869 CADET RIFLE WITH BAYONET. SN 1002. Cal. 50/70. 29-5/8” rnd bbl. Beveled lockplate is dated 1863. Breechblock is marked “1870 / eagle head over crossed arrows / US”. Cartouche has been defaced with heavy scratching. Large initials “RRW” have been carved on both sides of butt. CONDITION: Gray patina mixed with light surface rust and pitting, except on lock, action, and rear sight, which have brown patina in similar condition. Wood has a repair at wrist and other dents and scratches. Mechanically good. Bore is dark. Bayonet has been heavily cleaned at the tip, but some pitting remains. It does not fit muzzle well.
