LOT OF TWO BROWN-HAIRED CHINA DOLLS. The larger is a 25″, (63 cm), glazed porcelain shoulderhead doll, circa 1860, with the rarer brown eyes, creamy complexion, with rouged cheeks and chin, red line on upper eyelids, highlighted nostrils. The hairstyle is typical of the Civil War era with center part, soft gentle vertical curls along side and back leaving the neck exposed. She has on antique brown muslin stuffed body, and wears a long black taffeta dress with braided buttons, a newer gold gabardine skirt with a black laced and embroidered overskirt with similar trim on sleeves of jacket. The undergarments are of antique white cotton and lace, the shoes are brown leather boots which button on each side, old but probably newer than the doll itself; overall, CONDITION: Very good condition. The smaller 23″, (58 cm) is a reproduction portraying a doll from the 1850s. She is on an excellent quality stuffed muslin body with leather arms, red printed linen dress, and leather slippers which are attached to the body. Included are a pair of antique leather fashion gloves.
