EMILE ALBERT GRUPPE (American, 1896-1978) “FISHING SCHOONERS SADIE NOONAN & WENTWORTH IN SMITH’S COVE”. Large oil on canvas Gloucester Harbor scene shows two two-mast schooners on right side against a dock with a man in skiff beside. Several other skiffs are seen with a two-mast schooner with one sail up in central harbor with buildings on the left. The late afternoon sky with light edged gray clouds and blue sky. The sun reflects on the central schooner and casts light over the man and through the center of the scene. Signed lower right “Emile A. Gruppe 1945”. Housed in a wide carved wood and gilt modern frame. REFERENCE: A similar exampled is illustrated in “Brushwork of the Oil Painter” by Emile Gruppe, 1982. SIZE: 30-1/4″ x 36″.
