EARLY WOODEN SURVEYORS COMPASS S.THAXTER BOSTON. This early wooden surveyors compass probably dates to the 18th century and is made of walnut w/a brass engraved degree ring around the paper compass. The compass printed S.TH_XTER, MAKER, STATE STREET, BOSTON (There is a screw-hole after “H” where the “A” should be in Thaxter’s name. Compass ca. 1769). With make-do pine period carved cover.
