*RARE L.C. SMITH 5E GRADE SIDE-BY-SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 212803. Cal. 16 ga. 28″ bbls, tapered, matted, concave rib with dual silver sighting beads, 2-9/16″ chambers, choked MOD / IMP-MOD, Hunter One trigger & ejectors. Top of right bbl marked “L.C. SMITH” and right bbl “HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. M’F’R’S FULTON, N.Y. U.S.A.”. Rib has gold strip 2″ from chamber. The fabulous grade 5 receiver is engraved with fine foliate arabesque scroll, “L.C. SMITH” & oval with 2 pointing setters in field scene on left plate, and 2 pointers on point in field scene on right. Behind each oval is a fine bouquet of flowers. Floral bouquet can also be found on each side of frame in front portion. Trigger plate & bottom of receiver are engraved with fine scroll & floral pattern. Trigger guard bow also carries scroll & floral design. Mounted with highly figured walnut, checkered pistol grip with hard rubber grip cap, serrated hard rubber butt & checkered beavertail forend. Bore diameter: left -.662, right -.662. Bore restrictions: left -.019, right -.018. Wall thickness: left -.027, right -.031. Drop at heel: 2-1/2″, drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 7 lbs. 3 oz. LOP 13-3/8″. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain most of a fine professional quality restored blue, with slight rub mark from forend & a few minor light handling marks. Receiver with crisp clean engraving & retains 30-40% orig case colors in protected areas, blended with silver/gray patina. Trigger guard has 50-60% orig blue, thinning at edges & moderately worn through grip area. Stock is sound with a few minor nicks & scratches, hairline crack & tiny chip behind right lock plate; missing tiny sliver on left side of top tang, with dark hand-worn patina finish through grip area & fine smooth hand-rubbed finish on balance. Forend is sound with usual minor scratches, tiny chip on bottom at forend iron & hairline crack at release escutcheon; slightly worn checkering & fine hand-worn patina finish. Mechanics are crisp with non-automatic safety, strong ejectors & nice shiny bores. Gun locks up tight, with lever to right. 4-33466 BDT190 (8,000-12,000)
