*SCARCE WINCHESTER MODEL 37 LINE THROWING GUN. Cal 45-70 blank. Scarce and unusual line throwing gun with 14” smooth bore bbl marked with the Winchester logo and “Line Gun – 45-70 Blank Only”. Top of the bbl has the Winchester proof and “Bridger Naval Co.”. Bbl is mounted with a heavy aluminum string canister and the forearm has been modified to accommodate it. Usual uncheckered semi-pistol grip stock with black composition buttplate. Accompanied by its original Bridger Naval Co. brown fiber case with black metal edge reinforcing which contains five brass projectiles, a large ball of twine, another small brass implement and an instruction sheet. Case is hand lettered on the top “Lifeguard Service” with the Bridger Naval Co. stencil and a Maine Civil Defense decal Front of the case is hand lettered “Old Orchard/Lifeguards”. Also contains 27 rounds of Winchester blank ammunition. Additionally the inside of the lid is hand lettered with instructions. Also accompanies is a letter from the Treasury, BATF, dated August 1, 1994 stating that these line guns are exempt under the provisions of the National Firearms Act and are classified as a Curio and Relic. CONDITION: Extremely fine. The metal and wood retain virtually all their original factory finish with brilliant shiny bore. Case is fine with a break at one end where the bbl slammed through.
