*EXTREMELY RARE DELUXE ENGRAVED TAKEDOWN PRESENTATION MARLIN MODEL 1894 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 419065. Cal. 32 WCF (32-20). Extremely rare special order rifle with 24″ light weight oct to rnd bbl, 2/3 magazine, ivory bead front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. Top flat has usual Marlin markings with caliber over chamber area. Left top flat from the oct to rnd transition is engraved in block letter & script “PRESENTED TO THE Grand Worthy President F.O.E. Carl G. Winter. ON HIS VISIT TO THE Marlin Rockwell Corporation New Haven. Ct. by its Members Nov. 26. 1917.” Mounted with very highly figured shell & flame grain American walnut with “C” style carved & checkered forearm and serpentine grip butt stock with Marlin marked hard rubber buttplate. This rifle has an additional rare feature of having nickel plated lever, trigger, hammer & forend cap. Receiver is beautifully engraved in No. 3 style by Conrad Ulrich with the large oval vignette of a standing bull & cow elk in a mountain scene surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns with wavelet borders at top & bottom edges and heart shaped borders at front & back edges. Right side is engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with wavelet border at bottom edge, heart shaped borders at front & rear edges and a chip & dot border over loading gate. Side of bolt has about 50% coverage foliate arabesque patterns. Receiver ring is engraved in a fan pattern with wavelet & zig zag borders on top edges. Sides of takedown ring are engraved in foliate arabesque patterns with light arabesque patterns on top tang and about 3″ over the exposed flats of the bbl over the chamber area. Interior appears to be caked with solidified old oil and the mechanics are a little balky, however they are completely functional. The tip of the takedown arm is broken. SN is on left side of top tang under the wood, bottom of receiver and inside top tang channel of butt stock. PROVENANCE: Richard Rohal Estate Collection. CONDITION: Very fine, all matching. Bbl & magazine tube retain most of their orig factory blue with a couple of small scratches on top of bbl and some fine pin points of rust on left side at the muzzle. Takedown ring retains about 60% bright orig blue with all losses from a cleaned area on left side. Receiver retains 93-94% strong orig factory blue with one small cleaned area on top and top right edge and another on left side in the vignette. Top tang is mostly a cleaned blue/gray patina. Lever retains about 50% orig nickel with the hammer, trigger & forend cap retaining about all of their orig nickel. Wood is sound with usual light handling & storage marks with butt stock cleaned on right side and checkering showing light to moderate wear. Forearm retains about all of its orig factory varnish and butt stock about 50% orig varnish. As noted above, mechanics are a little balky due to the hardened oil in the action but are basically quite crisp. Very bright shiny bore. 4-40386 JR297 (6,000-10,000)
