*EXTREMELY RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 21 FACTORY CUTAWAY S/S SHOTGUN. SN 8727. Cal. 12 ga. 18-1/8″ bbls w/matted, tapered concave rib, w/side of left bbl cut to expose chamber area. SN of bbls is 25493 and choke marked IMP-CYL/IMP-MOD w/ejectors. Frame has had all markings removed from water table and elliptical cut made to left side to expose hammers and inner workings of the receiver. The stock head is also cut out on left side to show trigger, sears and safety. Right side of frame also has an elliptical cut showing the hammer w/stock intact. SN of frame appears to be 8727, the first number is slightly washed out. Mounted w/nicely figured walnut, checkered pistol grip w/metal pistol grip cap, gold initial shield w/initials “WLS” and Winchester vented recoil pad. Beaver tail forearm w/left side cut out to show latch and ejectors. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls have most of a factory quality blue as well as receiver w/some thinning across bottom. Stock had been broken and repaired at wrist. Accompanying this gun is a letter from William F. Smith, describing that it came from his father, William Smith who was a gunsmith for Winchester from 1940-1997 and in fact, worked as an outside contractor for Winchester until fully retiring in 2006 at the age of 91. Letter goes on to state that this was a demonstration piece for visitors or new gunsmiths. Obviously a way for the factory to make good use of damaged parts. 4-37237 BDT238 (4,000-6,000)
