*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 BOLT ACTION MILITARY RIFLE. Cal. 30-06. SN 1513419. Fine military rifle with “9-42” dated Springfield bbl, standard sights with front hood. Mounted in a Type B stock with grasping grooves and a checkered steel buttplate with trap containing a nickeled brass oiler/cleaning kit which contains a brass pull-through and brush. Muzzle has a flat crown that is bright with a small 6-pointed star at six o’clock position, indicating a star-gauge bbl. It has the nickel steel bolt and headless striker of the later style Springfields. Stock is properly without cartouche or “P” proof. Col. Brophy, in his book, The Springfield 1903 Rifles, on p. 203 refers an “SB” rifle and states that the “B” style stock is believed to have been available only on special order. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, probably unfired. Overall retains virtually all of its orig parkerized finish to all the metal. Stock is equally new with a few minor storage marks and a couple of heavy gouges on forearm. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-30804 JR226 (3,500-5,000)
